The fumes from the thermal power factory enter the desulfurization absorption tower, where a large amount of seawater is pumped into the tower and sprayed down from the top. Seawater has a natural alkalinity and can absorb sulfur dioxide in the flue gas. Sulfur dioxide reacts with the alkalinity in seawater to produce sulfites and other substances.

The seawater absorbed with sulfur dioxide flows out from the bottom of the absorption tower and enters the aeration tank. In the aeration pond, a large amount of air is drummed into the seawater through the aeration device, making the sulfite in the seawater come into full contact with oxygen and undergo an oxidation reaction, which is transformed into sulfate.

After oxidation treatment, seawater needs to be restored to meet the seawater quality standards in terms of PH and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). After meeting the standard, the seawater can be discharged back to the ocean or used for other purposes.
